A Kidz Guide to The Sad Life of Silent Letter


The more I learn how to read, the more I realize something. There are a lot of words out there that don’t use all of its letters. I think this is actually kind of sad and I feel bad for these silent letters.

So, I’ve written a short list with some words who leave out the sounds of certain letters. I think it is important for that silent letter to know how much it is appreciated in many other words!


1. Knife…Dear letter K,

ThanK you Kindly for being such a great letter! Without you, I would have to fly an ite, ride a bie, and have cae on my birthday. ThanKs again, letter K!

2. Thumb…Dear letter B,

Thank you from the Bottom of my heart for being such a great letter! Without you, I could only read ooks under a right lue sky. Thanks again, letter B!

3. Listen…Dear letter T,

Thank you Tremendously for being such a great leTTer! Wihou you, I would be forced o jump on a rampoline, ea urkey on hanksgiving, and wach elevision in he afernoon. Thanks again, leTTer T!

4. Scissors…Dear letter C,

Thank you for being such a Cool letter! Without you, I would have to tell people ongratulations when they do something good. Without you, a phone all would not be very fun. Without you, I would have to ride in an ar. Thank you again, letter C!

5. Wednesday…Dear letter D,

Thank you for being a Dynamite letter! Without you, my cat woul have to fight with my og, put her paw uner the oor, an eat cat foo that tastes like mouse. Thanks again, letter D!

6. Guitar…Dear letter U,

Thank yoU for being U! Withot yo, I wold not be able to swim nderwater, the smmer wold be nothing withot yo, and I wold be very nhappy all smmer long. Thanks again, letter U!

7. Wrote…Dear letter W,

Thank you for being a Wonderful letter! Ithout you, the orld ould be very boring and rong. I ould not be able to hisper a secret to my best friend or histle as I alk don the street. Thank you again, letter W!

8. Sign…Dear letter G,

Thank you for beinG a Great letter! Without you, food would not taste as ood, um would not be as chewy, and hamburers would be ross too. Thanks aGain, letter G!

9. Autumn…Dear letter N,

Thank you for being a Nice letter! Without you, I would ot be able to write this list. I also would ot be able to pick my ose with my figer as well! ThaNks again, letter N!

10. Christmas…Dear letter T,

I wroTe you a leTTer earlier, buT I jusT wanTed to Tell you again how much I appreciaTe you being a parT of the alphabeT! Because of you, we can have parTies, Toys, baskeTballs, and Trombones! Is There anyThing more greaT Than ThaT? I Think noT!
